Saint Thomas is proud of the service its 400-plus active volunteers provide for our patients and families.  Volunteers are a vital part in helping to create a warm and friendly environment.  They are present in every aspect of our organization, from greeting visitors at the information desks to visiting patients’ bedside.  We have volunteers that provide transportation through our courtesy golf cart, in our gift shop and hospice.  We also have volunteers that support staff with clerical and assembly detail.  No matter where our volunteers are, they enrich and live our mission of holistic care and service.  Our volunteers support us in our continuing drive for excellence and in making patient satisfaction the most important.

Volunteer Program Requirements

1. *Completed Application - Jr. Volunteer Application or Non Jr. Volunteer Application
2. Interview with Volunteer Coordinator
3. Background Check - Confidential check requested by the Volunteer Services Department
4. Health Screening - (provided through Employee Health) - Proof of two negative TB tests prior to volunteering and Proof of negative drug screening
5. Volunteer Orientation - Provided upon acceptance into the program
6. Service Hours Commitment - Hospital volunteers should be willing to commit 4 hours a week for minimum of 4 months

 Junior Volunteer Program

This program is for young adults who are looking to develop an understanding of health care and the resources available. During the summer months, they will have the opportunity to learn and observe what takes place within a hospital.  It also assists young adults in achieving emotional maturity by learning to put others first through serving.

Qualifications:

• 15 years of age or older
• Miss no more than 2 weeks during summer months
• Punctual and dependable
• Willing to accept supervision
• Maintain confidentiality
