The Bluebird Tree at Saint Thomas Hospital is ablaze in blue lights and bluebird ornaments following a lighting ceremony on November 10, 2011. The annual fundraiser, hosted by the Saint Thomas Foundation, was attended by nearly 200 Middle Tennessee Camp Bluebird supporters, volunteers and cancer survivors.
Preceding the tree lighting, several events highlighted the festive evening. Former Camp Bluebird director Gloria Cherry talked about her battle with cancer and the many blessings she discovered through her journey of healing.
The event also featured dinner, a silent auction, performances by cappella quartet Breath of Soul and the presentation of the Spirit Awards. Renee Darnell received the Spirit Award for Outstanding Camp Bluebird Camper and Sue Doyle was honored with the Spirit Award for Outstanding Volunteer.
All proceeds raised from the Bluebird Tree Lighting will be used to help cancer patients and survivors continue to attend Camp Bluebird each spring and fall. For more information on Camp Bluebird, check out their webpage.
