Bluebird Tree Lighting
CANCER SURVIVORS AND VOLUNTEERS RAISE FUNDS TO SUPPORT CAMP BLUEBIRD Annual Bluebird Tree Lighting event at Saint Thomas Hospital More than 100 Camp Bluebird supporters, volunteers and cancer survivors attended the annual Bluebird Tree Lighting on November 12!
Blue lights and bluebird ornaments adorned the tree, honoring Middle Tennessee Camp Bluebird adult cancer survivors. The event also featured a reception, silent auction, and entertainment by Alexis and Ryan Tait and performers Christopher Morris and Fred Bluestone. Tess Gerhart received a Spirit Award for Outstanding Camp Bluebird Camper and Mickey Self was honored with the Spirit Award for Outstanding Volunteer.
Preceding the tree lighting, keynote speaker, cancer survivor and WSMV-TV personality Terry Bulger received a standing ovation as he shared his story and emphasized how important it is for cancer patients to be surrounded by people who care.
At Camp Bluebird, a weekend retreat for adult cancer patients, sharing stories is one of the best gifts cancer survivors can give patients. The focus at camp is on maintaining hope and friendships, and inspiring one another to enjoy life as they gather strength to conquer fears, anxieties and their cancer. As one camper says, "Camp Bluebird is the best thing I have ever done. There are happy and sad moments at camp, and there is camaraderie, friendship and fun. It is nice to be loved and cared about, and to care for others and not be afraid to talk about our cancer."
All proceeds raised from the Bluebird Tree Lighting will be used to help cancer patients and survivors continue to attend Camp Bluebird each spring and fall. For more information on Camp Bluebird,
